Advancing Justice – CA Commends Governor Newsom on Withdrawing Troops at Southern Border
Sacramento, CA — This morning, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced he will withdraw over 350 of the state’s National Guard troops from the southern border. The troops will be redirected to support California’s fire agency as well as focus on international criminal drug gangs.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice – California (Advancing Justice – CA), a joint project between Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus and Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles issues the following statement:
“Once again, California has proved itself to be at the forefront of resisting xenophobic policies from the Trump administration.
President Trump’s proposal to build a wall at our southern border is nothing more than a political stunt. It is just one of a series of nativist and anti-immigrant policies that largely arises from false facts and fear-mongering.
California is home to over 10 million of this nation’s immigrants. From the passage of the California Values Act to the ongoing fight to keep families together, Advancing Justice – CA will continue to make sure our state is a safe place for all its residents and that taxpayer resources are used to strengthen our communities rather than divide them. We count on our state leadership to do the same.”
